Lawson shines in Britain as Racing Bulls streak grows

Liam Lawson believes Racing Bulls is getting stronger at every circuit after matching his best result of the 2026 season with sixth at the British Grand Prix.

The New Zealander continued his impressive run of form at Silverstone, backing up his sprint point on Saturday with another strong drive on Sunday as he equalled the sixth place he achieved earlier this year in Monaco.

The result marked Lawson’s seventh points finish of the season and his fifth in a row, moving him to 39 points and within three of Pierre Gasly in ninth in the drivers’ championship.

It also means Lawson has now scored more points in 2026 than he managed across the whole of last season.

Lawson made a strong start from 10th and survived opening-lap contact with Oscar Piastri before moving ahead of teammate Arvid Lindblad and running inside the points for much of the race, eventually climbing to sixth after late trouble for Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli.

“It’s been a good day,” Lawson told Sky Sports after the race.

“We had not a very good start, but a really good first lap here with the way the energy is.

“Even on the first lap you can make up quite a few positions. And then the car was just really good. Especially the second half of the stint for us, it really came alive.

“So yeah, pretty happy.”

Lawson’s run also carries major historical significance for Racing Bulls, with the 24-year-old becoming the first driver since Verstappen in 2015 to score in five consecutive races for the team.

He is also only the third driver in the team’s history under any name to achieve the feat, joining Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, who did so during Toro Rosso’s breakthrough 2008 season.

Lawson said the team’s form since introducing its larger upgrade package had given him confidence the car could remain competitive across different types of circuits.

“At the moment yes. I mean the big test was going to Barcelona and testing really the high speed balance,” Lawson said when asked if the car was proving strong everywhere.

“Because we hadn’t had that from when we brought this sort of bigger upgrade to Canada. And it’s been really, really good.

“It’s just getting better every weekend. Things are very strong. Obviously some tough tracks coming up, but I mean no reason why it shouldn’t be strong there as well.”

Lindblad finished directly behind Lawson in seventh, giving Racing Bulls a fourth consecutive double-points finish and extending the longest such streak in the team’s history.

It continued a remarkable run for the Faenza squad, which has now scored points at every race this season except Miami.

The result also moved Racing Bulls to within one point of Alpine in the fight for fifth in the constructors’ championship.

Lindblad said he was pleased with the team result, although admitted frustration at losing position to Lawson after a deployment issue early in the race.

“It was a good start. I knew with Max it was always going to be interesting, because it’s not easy to pass him,” Lindblad said.

“So I think I was on the grass a bit before Turn 1. And then we went side-by-side in three.

“And then unfortunately I had an issue again with the deployment to Turn 6. So Liam passed me. Which is a bit frustrating to be honest. Because I think if that hadn’t happened I would have been able to stay ahead of him during the race.

“So I’m a little bit disappointed about that. But regardless it’s a very good day for the team. We capitalised on the mistakes for the guys in front.

“So yeah, it was nice to score points in front of the home crowd.”

Team principal Alan Permane praised both drivers and the wider team after another major points haul.

“Another near-perfect weekend for us. Congratulations to both drivers and the team; a perfectly executed weekend all round,” Permane said.

“The strategy was spot on, the pace was excellent and we put ourselves in a position to maximise what was happening in front of us as the race unfolded.

“Everyone has been performing at a consistently high level from the drivers to the trackside team and of course, both our amazing factories in Milton Keynes and Faenza – it’s rewarding to see that hard work translating into results.

“We’ve had four quick races with two more before the summer break and we look forward to repeating that success in Spa.”
